Organizer, along with a committee of graduate students, of the Child Language Research Forum, long an annual conference but biennial since 1999, on current research on first language acquisition held at Stanford at the beginning of the Spring Quarter. This meeting attracts an international group of participants and has provided the model for other conferences in neighbouring fields such as second language acquisition and language disorders.
Editor, Papers & Reports on Child Language Development - a working paper series, with reports of research by faculty, staff, and students, as well as papers presented at the annual Child Language Research Forum. The series was sponsored by the Department of Linguistics, and widely distributed in the U.S. and abroad, 1973-1991. From 1992-2000, the Proceedings of the Child Language Research Forum, still under my editorship, were published by the Center for the Study of Language and Information, Stanford, and distributed by Cambridge University Press.
Co-organizer, with Anne Fernald (Department of Psychology), of the conference on "Finding the words"that brought together a prominent group of international researchers in speech perception, modeling, and semantic/pragmatic development, held at the Hartley Conference Center, Stanford University, April 27-29, 2000.
