Mark Fletcher 08/02/99 09:13 AM I continued replacing bolts on Old Original on Saturday. What a job this is - it is taking me a lot longer than expected. Fourth Pitch (ridge top 3rd class version) I replaced the Leeper hanger on the single protection bolt with a Fixe S.S. hanger. The 3/8" wedge-type bolt was in good condition. Fifth Pitch (ridge top rappel version) One or more bolts on all three rappel stations (top and two intermediate stations) were pulled and replaced with two Fixe S.S. rappel ring hangers and Rawl 6-piece 3/8" x 3-1/2" bolts at each station. No longer will people have to rappel off of old sun-bleached slings or continue to add additional slings to the rappel stations. Some older bolts could not be removed since they were very strong. One old rappel station consisted of three Leeper hangers and 1/4" x 1-1/2" split shaft bolts, all of which pulled very easily. This was as far as I got on Saturday. I estimate it will take me another two days to rebolt the Middle Tower Continuation and the rappel descent route.
