More about the Electromagnetically- Prepared Piano device

-I am very excited to say that I have been hired by the Oberlin Conservatory of Music starting this fall! I will be an Assistant Professor in the TIMARA department, joining Tom Lopez and Peter Swendsen. Before that, we will be spending the summer in Buenos Aires - lots of moving to do this summer!

-Saxophonist Michael Straus will be touring with my newest work, FeXIV (Iron Fourteen). He commissioned this piece for his "What Are You Looking At?" tour, involving pieces for saxophone, electronics, and video.

-I have several upcoming speaking engagements, both in conjunction with performances by Sebastian Berweck:
--University of Redlands on Wednesday, October 24
--Harvard University on Monday, November 4

-Philip Blackburn of Innova Recordings recently visited Stanford to interview several composition graduate students, myself included, for his podcast Measure for Measure. The results can be heard here.

-I recently received an honorable mention from Dal Niente New Music, for Elsewhere in a Negative Mirror, Part I.

-I will be presenting my paper "The Electromagnetically-Prepared Piano and its Compositional Implications" at ICMC 2007 in August, which includes a demo of the magnets.

-German pianist Sebastian Berweck will be taking my piece Elsewhere is a Negative Mirror, Part I, on his US tour later this year.

-The Visual Music Marathon at Northeastern was a great success, and lead to a number of interesting opportunities for Graveshift, such as the showing at SIGGRAPH and a mention in Animation World Magazine (with a short excerpt posted).

-Alex Ross, the music critic for the New Yorker, recently gave props to The Composer Next Door (on which I was featured).

-Holy crap! I'm a dad! Our daughter, Signe Roma Bloland, was born Wednesday, December 6th, 2006.
